PowerPoint Speech: What you are doing during Quarantine

Lessons:
1 Create your PowerPoint speech outline 1 and turn it in to Google Classroom- Due (Monday 5/11)
2. Once your outline is approved, Create your PowerPoint - Due (Wednesday, 5/13)

Our next Assignment:  Due - Wed., 5/20
3. Creative Commons - 5 picture/ image assignment.

Hello Effective Speaking,
For our next assignments, we are going to create narrated. Illustrated PowerPoints.  You can either verbally narrate or write a 3-5 sentence caption for each picture or video on a slide.

Topic 1:  What are you doing to cope with/ pass the time during the quarantine?
(Due Dates: At this time, I would like the planning sheets by Monday, 5.
Once I approve it, you may begin writing captions and gathering pics.  We will begin the PowerPoint project)

-PowerPoint Projects are due on Wednesday, 5/13
-Creative Commons Project is due on Monday, 5/18


INSTRUCTIONS:

I. Read the directions and fill out the
planning sheet below: Please turn your planning sheets in to www.turnitin.com  or email them to me at tchristian@berwicksd.org before you begin.  I need to approve all planning sheets)

1. Students will create an Adobe PowerPoint entitled "How to Cope with Staying Home" where you can showcase 3 chapters for this topic.

You will be featuring three chapters for your topic.
EXAMPLE: Main title:  How I am keeping busy during Quarantine
3 Chapters/ Subsections: A. Making a daily routine
                                           B. Teaching School
                                           C. Remembering to make time for myself

(You may use any subsection/ chapter as long as it is Mrs. Christian rated.  

Possible Topic Ideas: Your daily routine, Hobby, Creating fav. Meals, Connecting with others, School….etc.

2. Students will select a theme that will be carried out throughout the PowerPoint
3. Titles and captions are required throughout the project 
4. Students should create a minimum of 11 slides that should include:
- 1 Main title slide with your name and any other aspect that you would like to feature.
- 3 Subsection/ chapter title slides that indicate each aspect of your topic that you want to share
            -After each subtitle/ chapter, include 2 slides with pictures and captions.
            -All subtitle
-Captions can be verbally narrated or written.  Each slide’s caption should be a minimum of 3-5 sentences.
.-3 Pictures after each Subsection / Chapters must include pics and captions

- 1 Closing slide
*The closing slide must conclude your project.  You should write a short statement that sums up this project.  (A short concluding paragraph).

**IF YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN'T FIND ANY PICTURES, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO INCLUDE A SHORT PARAGRAPH ON EACH SLIDE WITH CLIP ART OR STOCK PHOTOS.

1. Search your topic
2. Go to "settings" and select ADVANCED SEAR CH
3. Scroll to the bottom to USAGE RIGHTS
4. Click the drop down and select "FREE TO USE OR SHARE , EVEN COMMERCIALLY"
5. This will display images that are legal to use.
6**If you are going to modify the pic, ex:  cut it out,  then select the option with MODIFY
^^If you click on the USAGE RIGHTS,  it explains how to use the usage rights

B. FLICKR.COM
(1.Once you search your image, go to the license drop down at the top left and select COMMERCIAL USE ALLOWED.
**IF YOU ARE GOING TO MODIFY, SELECT COMMERCIAL USE ALLOWED WITH MODIFICATIONS.
2. - This will display all of the photos that are free to use.)
*remember to cite them.
3. Click on your pic
4. The the Some Rights Reserved link to double check that you can use it.
(It's usually under the pic on the right)

Tale Speeches

**As per your request, I will be available at our Google Meeting link on Thursday, 4/16 @ 1PM.  Last week was a fun meeting!

Hello!
Assignment:
1. Once yo have turned in your final draft, we are going to begin preparing a three paragraph speech.
2. You must include specific detail, don't be general.
3. You must use clear transitions.
4. Each person in the group has to give their own analysis.
5. (I would suggest that each paragraph have a minimal of 12-15 sentences.)

Here is your outline:
Paragraph 1:
A. Motivator
B. Introduce the concept of your story so everyone understands what your are talking about
C. Give brief details on the characters, plot, and conflict in the story.
D. Transition

Paragraph 2:
A. Discuss your modern twists.  (What elements did you include that makes your story relevant in today's society?)
B. Compare/ Contrast how your tale would have been received in previous decades as compared to today's society.
C. Why are your modern twists relevant in today's society.
D. Transition

Paragraph 3:  Conclusion
A. Talk about how you selected your topic.  What social issues did you consider when writing the tale?
B. Was it more difficult or easier to write this story using modern-day issues/ topics?
C. What overall lesson(s) did you want your readers to learn?
D. Your overall analysis of your tale.  (Conclusion)

Please turn your rough paragraphs in by Thursday, 4/16  (I will set a final draft date during the meeting)
We will meet on Thursday 4/16 @ 1 and discuss your rough paragraphs/ speeches
We will discuss presentation options at this time.

Tale Final Draft

Hello!
You guys did a great job with your tales.  The ones I corrected were so creative with your modern-day twists!!!

If you could, please look at www.turnitin.com, and make the corrections.  (For the most part, corrections are minimal)

Please turn your final version in to www.turnitin.com (Story final draft) by the end of the week.
